Our Activities

 

MONTHLY MEETINGS

Held at 10:00 in the morning on the first Fridays of September, October, November, March and April, and at 11:00 AM in December and May. There will be no meetings in January and February, and the summer months of June, July, and August. 

For 2025-2026, the club meets at the Program Room of the Monroeville Public Library at 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd, Monroeville, PA, for the September, October, November, March, and April meetings. The location of the December and May meetings will be announced later.

Refreshments, speakers, performers, or musicians are featured.

October 2 – Unofficial IWC Night Out!

Gwen Strickland will present on her mother’s book, "The Life of Black People in Sewickley," — a book currently being made into a documentary film.

Refreshments provided by IWC (our tasty member contributions are always welcome).

Sign up at the October meeting and indicate whether you’ll bring an entrĂ©e or dessert — beverages will be provided.
It promises to be a bewitching afternoon and a wonderful way to celebrate the season together!

    November 7th - 10:00 a.m. - Monthly Meeting

   Program Room (Lower Level), Monroeville Library

    Join us for coffee, sweets, and great company! Our program will feature our talented member Nina Hughes, who will share the inspirations behind her beautiful artwork. She created the lovely watercolor cover of our Program and Directory for 2025-2026.  Many of us have admired Nina’s creations over the years — now we’ll get to learn the stories behind them. 

    November 13th at 7:30 p.m.- Jazz Night

    Peppers N’AT Restaurant, 28 Braddock Avenue

    Enjoy an evening of great music with the Roger Barbour Jazz Group! And with a little encouragement, we may even see Nina’s husband, Bob, join in on the performance.

    December 5th at 11:00 AM Holiday Luncheon at The Wooden Nickel.

     Be sure to bring your $30.00 checks for the December 5th Holiday Luncheon at The Wooden Nickel. Sheena will be collecting checks at the November meeting.

    Although lunch will be provided, we’ll have an opportunity to share our special homemade desserts — more information will be shared at the meeting.

    Group singing of Christmas Carols will be held and led by Valerie Wilson.

    February 2026: Lunar New Year will be held at Saga Hibachi Steak House & Sushi Bar (based on the survey results)

Tomoko Tamura from Japan  will be coordinating this exciting Cultural Exchange Program. She will be accompanied by this year’s President Lulu Herold from the Philippines, Madu Doshi and Madhubala Patel from India, and Claudette Kane, representing Acadia French History. Please contact Tomoko Tamura  if  you are interested in representing your nationality.

OVERVIEW

FIELD TRIPS

In the past, we have visited museums, parks, and gardens.  We usually have lunch at different restaurants near these places.

EVENING EVENTS

Some celebrations we had in the past were: a wine and cheese party, the Lunar New Year, the Evening of Jazz, Hawaiian Luau.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

MAHJONG:

Players meet on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM at Panera Bread at Penn Center, Wilkins Township. In the Summer, players may meet at the Canoe Club instead of at Panera Bread.

WHAT’S COOKING?

This is a small, informal lunch group that meets approximately every 2 months at the home of a volunteer hostess at 11:30 a.m. Usually, a theme is chosen.  The attendees bring a dish to share. Details are given at sign-up.

BOOK CLUB:

This group meets at Yolanda’s Room, Monroeville Library, every second Monday of the month, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI):

OLLI at the University of Pittsburgh is a thriving and vibrant membership-based community of adults, age 50 and better, who are passionate about learning. There are no tests, or grades, and no degree requirements, making it the perfect place for exploring new topics with other interested adults.

Pittsburgh Symphony East:

Pittsburgh Symphony East is an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Symphony Association. Members meet throughout the year for a series of luncheons featuring guest speakers and artists. General Meeting at the Lamplighter Restaurant, Delmont, PA.
